Native of Holland. In North and South Holland it still appears mainly on dike slopes and dunes and grows best in soil rich in nutrients and limestone. The color of the flower is purple / reddish brown. The 1st year it forms a leaf rosette and then only in the 2nd year the flower stems. In folk medicine this is used as a wound remedy. Can be toxic for horses and cattle.
